Here’s how to bounce back from jet lag

It’s the end of December, and if you’re like us, you’re either coming back from an epic getaway or gearing up for one. From winter wonderlands to taking full advantage of that currency shift in Japan, travel is always a vibe—until jet lag hits.

Whether you’re just back or about to take off, we’ve got your recovery plan covered! In this blog, we’re sharing top tips to help you kick jet lag to the curb, re-adjust to your time zone, and get back to feeling your best. Ready to hit the ground running? Let’s go!

1. Crash in plenty of quality sleep and reset your body clock

Let’s be real: when you’re traveling, you’re living your best “no sleep, all adventure” life. But if you’re feeling like a zombie after your trip, it’s time to recharge with 7-9 hours of quality sleep.

Here’s how to sleep like a champ:

  • Spray lavender pillow mist for some calming vibes
  • Slip on a sleeping eye mask and power down all screens (yes, even your phone)
  • Try melatonin (a hormone that regulates sleep-wake cycles) if your body’s totally out of whack

If you’re coming from a different time zone, start adjusting your bedtime before you travel. If you’ve already arrived and are struggling, just power through and go to bed at the local time (no naps!). If you’re absolutely wrecked, a quick 20-30 min nap is the sweet spot to reset.

2. Treat your body to a massage after all that walking

Traveling overseas can be more physically exhausting than you might think. Between sightseeing, navigating transportation, and hopping between cities, you’re walking far more than you would on a typical week in Singapore. Even if your trip isn’t a backpacking adventure, long travel days and the constant movement can leave your body feeling drained and sore.

Take a break from “holiday overload” and give your body the recovery it deserves with an invigorating body massage. A solid massage helps with muscle tension, improves circulation, and gives your body the recovery it deserves. Estetica’s Meridian Detox Body Treatment is perfect for working out muscle knots and releasing built-up tension. After all, travel may be an adventure for the soul, but it’s your body that needs some TLC to keep up!

3. Fuel up with wholesome, light meals

After days of indulging in rich foods, the last thing your body wants is greasy or heavy meals that leave you feeling sluggish. Time to give your body nutritious, light meals that will make you feel recharged. Fill your plate with nutrient-dense ingredients such as fresh fruits, colourful vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. These foods provide the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants your body needs to recover and get back to feeling your best.

To further support your recovery, don’t forget to include prebiotics in your post-trip meals. They are essential for promoting regular digestion and can help alleviate any discomfort, such as bloating or constipation, that might have been triggered by indulgent eating while traveling. By nourishing your gut with prebiotic-rich foods, you’ll help your digestive system get back on track and feel more balanced in no time.

4. Give your skin barrier a boost

Airplane cabins at high altitudes are notoriously dehydrating, leaving your skin feeling dry and dull. Add extreme cold to the mix, and even oily skin can turn flaky!

A barrier-boosting treatment like Estetica’s Premium Dual Ampoule Facial is exactly what your skin needs. It helps repair tight, dehydrated skin, replenishing moisture and restoring balance.

Customised with dual essence serums, deluxe massage cream, and a specialised treatment mask to boost hydration and repair your skin, it soothes flare-ups, strengthens your skin barrier, and promotes quick healing, giving you plump, healthy skin in no time.

5. Jack up your drinks with vitamins

Are you the type to avoid drinking water on flights because you don’t want to deal with the bathroom lines? You’re not alone, but dehydration is real! The dry, circulated air on airplanes can leave your body dehydrated, and the jet lag only worsens this.

Instead of caffeine or alcohol (which messes with your sleep and jet lag), rehydrate with something rejuvenating, like lemon water. It’s packed with vitamin C (for immunity) and citric acid, which helps your liver flush out toxins and combat that post-flight slump.

6. Snug on a premium mask before sleep

Skincare is always essential, but post-travel skin needs a little extra TLC. Treat yourself to a luxurious mask to hydrate, restore radiance, and relax.

ést.lab’s VitaLift A+ Brillage Mask is your BFF after a flight. This isn’t just any sheet mask—it’s crafted from biocellulose, one of the finest materials available. Compared to hydrogel masks, biocellulose offers superior adhesion and hydration, ensuring that your skin gets the full benefit of every drop.

Plus, it’s packed with brightening powerhouse Diglucosyl Gallic Acid and collagen-boosting ingredients such as Argireline (a Botox alternative)—hello, youthful glow!

7. Keep active with light stretches

While rest is crucial for recovery, staying active can also help you reboot your body and get back into your routine more quickly. The morning after your arrival, try incorporating some light stretching or yoga for 15-20 minutes to ease stiffness and improve flexibility—especially after long hours of travel.

Focus on calming poses like Child’s Pose, Cat-Cow, and Downward Dog, which target the spine and hips, helping to release tension and enhance mobility. Once you start feeling more energised, take a brisk walk in the evening to boost circulation.

Travel fatigue is real, but it’s not the end of the world. As much as you enjoyed your trip, the aftermath can be brutal.
