Your guide to acing that pregnancy glow
Pregnancy is definitely something to be joyous about, but not many women understand how to handle your skin whilst carrying your baby to term. As your skin faces hormonal changes, you may be more than a little confused. You find yourself with different skincare concerns you’ve never faced before, and your holy grail products are no longer working its magic. While it may be true that you would have a glow like never before when you’re pregnant, there are many things you should take note of to keep that glow and accentuate it further!
Here’s a list of dos and don’ts to help you look your best throughout your pregnancy!
1) The First Trimester
The beginning is always the hardest, but we know you’ll pull through! Your body is just starting to adjust to its newly pregnant state, and you need to get accustomed to it. Counter your morning sickness and dehydration issues by drinking more water and eating well to get the nutrients you need. Also, do be mentally prepared for any sudden breakouts – the hormonal changes your body is going through may cause an influx of breakouts, but fret not, your skin will clear up eventually.
This is the time to join the clean beauty club. There are a lot of unknowns about skincare products for mums-to-be as it is too risky to run any studies on pregnant women. Your skin absorbs what it is fed, and that may cross into the placenta.
What you can do is use products that are as natural and non-toxic as possible and avoid products that contain ingredients like retinol, hydroquinone, salicylic acid, parabens and benzoyl peroxide. Whenever you are in doubt, always err on the side of caution!
2) The Second Trimester
By now, your body has gotten used to taking care of an additional life inside of you. It is time to give back to your body!
Give your skin some TLC by nourishing and replenishing it aplenty. One of the most common skin conditions during pregnancy is hyperpigmentation and melasma. It’s not permanent, and will fade after delivery, but why not give your skin a little help? Here’s how: Sunscreen, sunscreen, and more sunscreen! Wear high-factor sun protection and limit sun exposure as much as possible. We recommend our SunShield SPF 50***, which is paraben-free and chock-full of vitamin C – this makes it safe for pregnant ladies AND helps to fade hyperpigmentation.
You may also notice your skin feeling a bit more dehydrated due to your bodily fluids going to the baby. Hydration is key here! Our ActivCalm Anti-Stress Hydra Cream contains ceramides, which is great for dehydrated skin as it helps the skin lock in AND retain moisture. This water-based moisturiser is also perfect as it is formulated for sensitive skin will be highly suitable for use by pregnant ladies.

3) The Final Trimester
You’re now seeing most of that pregnancy glow – your skin would have acclimated to the new life inside of you. Milk that glow by pampering your skin every now and then. After all, you deserve it!
Treat yourself to a little home spa by masking in the comfort of your home and enjoying a warm foot bath. Or you can head out for a pregnancy-safe facial and enjoy a soothing face massage at the same time. Just make sure to avoid any machine use, botox treatments, and retinol products during these spa trips!
To be sure, don’t forget to check in with your facialist to make sure that the facial treatment you’re receiving is pregnancy-safe! If you require more help on this, our friendly therapists at any of the Estetica Beauty Studios will be more than willing to help!
4) Post-pregnancy
Congratulations on welcoming a new addition to your family! A new slew of breakouts might occur again at this stage while your body readjusts and faces more hormonal changes. If you are breastfeeding, continue to make sure that the ingredients in your skincare are safe and as natural as possible.
During this postpartum period, there will be a thousand and one things on your mind and to be honest, you’ll probably not have the luxury of time to resume your 10-step Korean skincare routine. Try stocking up on multi-tasking products that will help you save time yet provide ample benefits for your skin. ?
Our VitaLift A+ Brillage Mask offers just that, with hydrating, anti-ageing and brightening properties all in one! What’s more, you’d be pleased to know that the mask is made of a nano biocellulose material, which means the mask sticks to your face like a second skin! And that equates to more time for you to do the things which matters! You’d be able to walk around and tend to your newborn without fearing that the mask might slip off your face!

Now that you’re armed with the right knowledge, go forth and glow with pride! If you are still unsure about anything, we highly recommend you to check in with your ob-gyn to ensure everything is well. We wish you a smooth sailing pregnancy, and a safe delivery!
In Good Hands,
