Valentine’s Day Special

Multiple studies and polls have shown that the first thing people notice about you are your eyes. At the expense of sounding like a cliché, the old adage “eyes are the windows to the soul” is literally true. If you need further convincing, then it’s probably time for you to watch this.

So it is IMPERATIVE that this Valentine’s Day, instead of just “looking through your eyes”, you start paying attention to how your eyes look! Here are 5 useful tips for you to spruce up your peepers as Valentine’s Day approaches:

Tip #1: Change your sleeping habits

One way to reduce puffiness – a temporary cause of eye bags, is to sleep on your back with your head elevated with one or more pillows. Let gravity drain away your fluid buildup effortlessly. Of course, having enough sleep (doctors advise at least eight hours of sleep daily) will also get rid of signs of exhaustion and boost productivity for the day!

Tip #2: Remove your eye makeup completely

It is important to use a good makeup remover to remove your smoky eye makeup, waterproof eyeliner and mascara before going to bed. Traces of dark pigments left around your eye contours can make you look like you haven’t slept for days. Also, anything that irritates your eyes can also leave them watery and puffy.

Tip #3: The cold treatment

To eradicate morning puffiness and lighten the bluish tinge under your eyes, apply something that cools the skin and constricts the capillaries beneath. This will help to reduce swelling and make the blood vessels less visible. Apply cucumber or potato slices, chilled spoons, or ice packs to the area around the eyes for up to 10 minutes.

Tip #4: Eat right

I’m gonna throw in another cliché here: “you are what you eat”… so if you want good eye health (and fresher-looking eyes!), you gotta pimp your diet with more green vegetables, fatty fish like salmon and tuna, sweet potatoes, nuts and citrus fruits! And do reduce salt in your diet to reduce puffiness (bye bye potato chips!).

Tip #5: Exercise regularly

If you’ve been faithfully reading all our blog posts (or any other beauty & fitness columns) so far, then this is one of the all-time Top 5 Tips for any beauty remedy! And for good reason. Daily exercise boosts blood circulation throughout your body (including your face), reducing water retention and puffiness. Regular physical activity can also help you fall asleep faster and deepen your sleep. Just don’t exercise too close to bedtime otherwise you’ll feel too energized to fall asleep.

So here’s hoping you score big this Valentine’s with your look of Luuuurve… ;)
