For most of us going through puberty (and sometimes even after!), pimples are THE bane from HELL. They hurt when they are forming, they look and feel disgusting once they are RIPE with pus, and they positively OOZE with yellow sulphur-like toxins when they burst! But that’s not all. After the breakout, the pimple signs off with a little parting gift: an acne scar.
The discoloured blemish is blatant proof that you had a pimple, and for the uninformed, that mark is there to stay. Now, you can get rid of those acne scars easily using instagram filters or photoshop, but turn those filters off and the pesky scars are still there.
What is an acne scar?
An acne scar is basically what remains after a pimple or acne has healed. Contrary to popular belief, acne scars do not result from just picking at your pimples. Truth be told, there are acne lesions that are prone to scarring even if you leave them completely alone! The more inflammations you develop during acne phases, the more likely it is that you will scar. And the tendency to scar is mostly related to our genes or the extent of our inflammatory response to acne.
Types of acne scars
When a breakout happens, engorged or inflamed pores affect the skin which can lead to red spots, hyperpigmentation, deep pits and rough patches on the face. There are mainly two types of acne scars: atrophic and hypertrophic. Atrophic scarring commonly seen as a result of acne is often referred to as an “ice pick” scar, which appears more deep than wide. Hypertrophic scars appear as thick, raised bumps on the surface of skin.

Diamond Peel Therapy [SGD100 | 15mins]
This treatment uses tiny diamond crystals to exfoliate and peel off the outermost layers of the epidermis, where scarred and blemished skin reside (and which contributes to dull looking complexions), and activates the cells underneath to produce new, baby smooth skin. This painless skin-resurfacing therapy helps to refine pores, improve the appearance of blemishes, and even out blotchy skin. This treatment is effective for superficial and moderate acne scars.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Therapy [SGD200 | 30mins]
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a broad-based light therapy that uses a broad spectrum of wavelengths to penetrate the dermis at various levels, resulting in skin revitalisation. Darker skin pigments pick up more light energy than the surrounding normal skin and are ablated in the process; as a result, skin looks fresher and more radiant.. This therapy helps to diminish the appearance of pimple blemishes and acne scars, while tightening and refining dilated pores. This treatment is effective for superficial and moderate acne scars.
**TAKE NOTE** It’s no use treating acne scars if your lifestyle continues to promote regular breakouts! Therefore, besides the above treatments, it is extremely important to have a basic skin care regimen that includes regular exercise and adequate water intake, as well as daily cleansing, toning and moisturizing with the right skincare products suitable for your skin type. Reducing stress also helps to keep acne at bay.
It will take some time for your skin to renew itself but stick to the plan and you will definitely be happy with the results! Say yes to #nofilter!
In good hands,
