Know your acne to find your cure!

Did you know that around 85% of all people experience some type of acne in their lives? In fact, acne does not just plague teenagers undergoing puberty, but also adults too. And oftentimes, everyone has a similar question: how to get rid of them, pronto.

But first, let’s find out the different types of acne before we tell you how you should calm and shrink those angry zits.

1. Comedonal Acne

Comedonal Acne is caused by an accumulation of sebum, dirt and dead skin cells, resulting in clogged pores. The lesions on the skin are most commonly comedones, wherein a comedone starts forming when oil or skin cells get lodged in the hair follicle, creating a bump on the skin.

There are 2 sub-types of comedonal acne— closed comedones which are whiteheads, and open comedones which are blackheads.

For whiteheads, the comedone and skin has not yet ruptured and opened. But, your pore size may not be able to accommodate the build-up of dead skin cells and bacteria. So, as the skin continues to produce oil and dead cells, the pore opens. More often than not, the pore may stay clogged although open, and so this open comedone turns to a blackhead as it oxidises. Yuck!

These are common occurrences across any skin type, and can be frustrating to manage.

So…how can we treat them?

Fear not! Estetica provides effective treatments for comedonal acne.

For instance, the AquaGlow Peel Treatment uses vacuum suction to extract impurities embedded in the pores, and is designed for all skin types— normal, combination, oily, acne-prone and dull or mature skin. This treatment clears clogged pores, lightens marks and blemishes, and smoothes skin texture— effectively minimising bumpy comedonal acne.

Now, doesn’t that just sound so good?

For topical treatments, try the ést.lab’s PurClear Nano Silver AG+ Essence, which is a soothing alcohol-free gel moisturiser packed with botanical extracts and nano silver to eliminate pathogenic acne-causing bacteria from the skin.

Besides reducing excessive sebum secretion, it also helps to fortify the skin barrier, effectively deterring comedonal acne formation. Formulated for all skin types, its lightweight texture is perfect in daily use for acne spot treatment too! Mummies or mums-to-be, no worries for you either, it is safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Yay!

2. Inflammatory Acne

Up next, the second type of acne is inflammatory acne (another term for pimples), which occurs when hair follicles become clogged with excess oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria, leading to inflammation and infection— thus appearing red and inflamed, or even pus-filled. Oh no!

Inflamed, red bumps are known as papules. When these bumps can get further infected by pollutants in the air and get filled with white or yellow pus-filled centres, they become pustules.

Oh yeah!

Studies have shown that LED Blue Light Therapy is safe, affordable, and convenient… but the best way to see how effective it treats acne, is to try it for yourself!

That’s not all, pair it with ést.lab PurClear Anti-Acne Serum at home to put up a mean fight against breakouts on all skin types, especially acne-prone or reactive skin.

Gentle, non-comedogenic and tailored to treat hormonal acne or flare-ups without irritation, as it does not dry out the skin like other anti-acne products. Sounds like a winner? There’s more!

Its specific blend of ingredients like Tea Tree Leaf Oil and Alpine Willowherb Extract also effectively rebalances your skin’s microbiome, fortifying against breakout recurrences.

3. Nodulocystic Acne

This 3rd type of acne is characterised by severe, deep breakouts which may be painful, and often leave behind scars, which would dismay anyone.

With this, hard, painful acne lesions deep under the skin called nodules may occur, and/or cysts, which are large, painful, pus-filled acne lesions.

Nodulocystic acne can be difficult to treat, but what’s worse is that if left untreated, it can cause scarring.
