Returning to the workplace in the age of COVID-19.

Alas, the day we’ve been dreading has finally loomed upon us, and working from home is no longer going to be a norm. *sigh*

If you’re part of the lucky 75% who have been permitted to return to office from 5th April onwards (that means no more waking up 5 minutes before your first Zoom meeting and working from the comfort of your bed), we feel you!

While some are itching to be back at their desks, others (like us) are dreading the long commute and squeezy public transport. No matter the case, returning to the office after being cooped up at home for a year can be a huge change.

Now wipe those tears away because we’re here to help make your transition a lil’ easier.

1. Preparation is key

The last thing you want is to rush around looking for your missing wallet or your misplaced documents. Trust us, you don’t want to show up for work late with your top drenched in perspiration at the start of the day.

Set aside 5-10 minutes every night to prepare your necessities for the next day. Pick out your wardrobe, pack your essentials and clean your makeup tools for a smoother and fuss-free morning.

Bonus tip: pack your lunch!

If you’re tired of huge crowds and snaking queues, try bringing your own meal for a change. Besides saving time and money, you’ll also be practising social distancing like a pro!

Just don’t forget to prep your meals in advance so you’re not rushing to fit those sandwiches or rice into your Tupperware.

2. Mask on!

How many times have you walked down the street, gotten weird stares from people, flagged down a bus, then gotten told off by the driver for not wearing a mask? Only us?

Remembering your mask at all times is proving to be nearly impossible. I’m pretty sure we’ve all forgotten it at least once. Mask on 24/7 (or at least anytime we step out of our house) is the new norm, so don’t forget to grab your mask before you leave. You don’t want to have to pay a hefty fine now, do you?

A good way to avoid any sticky situation would be to keep a spare piece in your bag at all times.

3. Prevent mask-ne

Masks are here to stay, at least until the pandemic is over, and this piece of covering is proving to be quite the challenge. Besides being annoyingly uncomfortable and inconvenient, it also causes the dreaded MASK-NE.

Mask-ne is the new buzzword for acne caused by prolonged mask wearing. It creates a hot and humid environment around your jawline that’s conducive for bacteria to thrive. The severity of your mask-ne can be affected by a multitude of factors, such as your skin’s sebum level, the amount of dead skin cells your skin sheds, how clogged your pores are, etc.

Another possible cause of mask-ne is the friction between the mask and your face. When the mask rubs against your skin, it can lead to redness and chafing. The material of the mask may also cause your face to have reactions to it, especially sensitive skin types. Avoid synthetic materials such as polyester and nylon as these are more likely to trap heat and moisture within. Even certain detergents that you use to wash your fabric mask may cause irritation to your skin.

Thankfully, anti-acne products exist to help curb your acne woes.

ést.lab’s PurClear range offers products that tackle acne-related issues, leaving your skin clearer and pores cleaner. From serums to masks and moisturisers, there’s a little something for everyone. So start your anti-acne journey with ést.lab and watch mask-ne become a thing of the past.

4. Keep it sanitary

Always keep a bottle of hand sanitiser on you so you never have to worry about germs ever again. Well, temporarily, at least. Using sanitising products can help maintain overall cleanliness and reduce the spread of germs – such as after you sneeze, handle money or before digging into a meal.

Another tip would be to keep your office clean. Wipe down your desk, seat and desk/laptop to minimise the accumulation of germs. Investing in a disinfectant spray or a portable desk air purifier could be a good choice too.

Also, don’t forget to clear out the trash and spring clean the office every once in a while.

We hope that these tips will prove to be helpful and the transition back to work has been/will be a smooth one for you!
